I took it back when it started around 2016. I loved it. It might not be for everyone, but for me it was exactly what I needed at the time. It gave me a methodology to approach documentary footage that I hadnt had up to that point – everyone kept telling me “you just learn with experience” and “you develop an ear for this”, like its impossible to teach – well, this gave me the theory and the practical roadmap and everything else I could ask for.
Its 100% aimed at documentary. And its expensive. And they changed the pricing scheme recently, making it a bigger bite… But if you can swing it and you feel like your documentary skills need some work, definitely take it.

To become a good editor you have to edit. In thgat way the inside the edit course is one of the best. It also makes you not a technical editor but a storyteller another great plus. I recommend going with inside the edit and doing the work over spending time watching and reading.

I took this course back when it started in 2015!
I’m not actually an editor but work in Previs/VFX so I do end up doing lots of rough edits and wanted to gain some knowledge of editing. I don’t know if it’s changed, but at the time it was only geared toward reality TV or documentary style cutting instead of the types of action scenes I usually do. Another downside, I thought it moved excruciatingly slow so it took me quite awhile to get through all the modules.
Despite the slowness, I did actually learn a bunch. There’s some great nuggets of info that you definitely won’t get by reading a Walter Murch book. If someone put a gun to my head and made me edit a documentary film I could probably do a passable job now hahaa
